Book Review of: SOAR: Build Your Vision from the Ground Up by TD Jakes

Image
My Personal Book Review of: SOAR: Build Your Vision from the Ground Up by TD Jakes     The book was released in 2018, but is very relevant and encouraging today as then.  The thought of your 9-to-5 supplying all your financial needs is a fantasy when you look at the reality of today’s society.  Soar reminds me to expand my creativity and ask God for what other resources can provide income for my family and to help serve  others around me. Soar talks to people of faith, entrepreneurship, inventors, dreamers, creators, artists, history lovers, etc.  The mixture of biblical examples, stories of  inventors like the Wright Brothers, and TD Jakes' life growing up make this book a must  read. I love chapter 3. dedicated to women entrepreneurs, including Jake’s mother and her work ethic in being an entrepreneur. How that affected Jakes life and was an example for him for the future. There’s also a breakdown of statistics, eras of society and trends that created opportunities in business

My Personal Book Review of: "Get Out Of Your Own Way: Overcoming Self-Defeating Behavior" by Mark Goulston, M.D. and Philip Goldberg This tittle caught my eye on Amazon.com and reading through the Table of Contents, I had to order it. I started reading the book soon as I got it out the mail. I read it a month straight and was so convicted about the self-defeating behaviors in my own life. I will read this book again and again for reference and strength. The book is about self-defeating behavior and how to defeat them. The book has 40 chapters of self-defeating behaviors Chasing After Love and Approval from a Parent Getting Involved With the Wrong People Procrastinating Expecting Others to Understand How You Feel Waiting Until It's Too Late Getting So Angry You Make Things Worse Saying Yes When You Want To Say NO Holding A Grudge Assuming They Don't Want Anything In Return Playing It Safe Always Having To Be Right Focusing On What Your Partner Is Doing Wrong  P

Book Review of "NO MATTER WHAT!: 9 STEPS TO LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE" by Lisa Nichols

My Personal Book Review of  "No Matter What" by Lisa Nichols I can't help but think of the words from that Yolanda Adam's song, "The Battle Is The Lord's". Part of the chorus rings out to me: No matter what you're going through Remember that God only wants to use you No matter what you happen to go through right now Remember that in the midst of it all, God only wants to use you     The lyrics to that song are powerful...and so is Lisa Nichols book.     In this book , Lisa share with us 9 STEPS TO LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE.  I had to put that in caps because I think most of us can think otherwise. This life is can be at times...blah. Lisa breaks the book down in terms of Bounce-Back Muscles we all need to develop and empower our life.     The 9 Bounce-Back Muscles: 1.Understanding 2. Faith-in-Myself 3. Take Action 4. I-Know-Like-I-Know 5. Honesty 6. Say-Yes 7. Determination 8. Forgiveness 9. Highest Choice   Lisa breaks down the meaning of eac

Book Review of "No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline" by Bryan Tracy

My Personal Book Review of  "No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline" by Bryan Tracy I admire the look and results of self-discipline in those people around me and when I achieve being self-disciplined myself. Reaching that level of success is hard. Thriving to maintain and climb even higher is extraordinary! This book reminds me of the higher level I want to achieve. This book calls me to that higher level of self-discipline and understanding the value of using it. When you think of self-discipline, what comes to your mind? For me, it means having self-control. For you can only control you. In his book , Brian shows 21 ways to achieve lasting happiness and success. I know you can be thinking, I thought the book was about self-discipline? What do those two have to do with self-discipline?! PLENTY! As Brian explains in the 21 chapters of this book, when you put self-discipline into practice on a consistent basis, you will be personally fulfilled. You will be

Book Review of "Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success" by Steve Harvey

Image
My Personal Book Review of: "Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success: Discovering Your Gift And The Way To Life's Richies" by Steve Harvey I got the book for Christmas and thought, "Do I really need to read this book?" I already read 'motivational' books and felt I was on a certain level in my gift. I am working on the consistency of the doing part (and still working on that part...lol.)  I am happy I didn't listen to my pride and started reading this book. first of all, I love the writing style of the book. It is easy and very down to earth to read. I felt like Steve was directly talking to me as I read it. You remembered me asking, Why should I read this book?  I got that answer in the introduction!  (Part of the text of the Introduction, page 3 highlighted in red below) " It's for you if you are just starting out, or have decided to stop struggling with obstacles that you are determined to overcome, or have already been clim

Book Review of "Soul Shaping" by Jeff Brown

Image
" Soul Shaping - The Journey of Self-Creation " by Jeff Brown Soulshaping is the inspiring memoir of an archetypal "male warrior"–a trial lawyer–who struggled to find his heart and a more authentic, soulful path. Rivetingly personal and profoundly universal, this book is for anyone who has heard a whisper of something truer calling out to them amid the distractions of modern life. Jeff Brown ’s dramatic and often funny story takes readers through remarkably human experiences–emotional, physical, and economic–as he vividly recounts his a troubled childhood, his success in apprenticing with Canada’s top criminal lawyer, and his ultimate decision to leave the law and begin an an inner journey to discover his soul’s purpose. A work of courageous self-creation, Soulshaping reminds us that we are all truly connected, that our seemingly isolated struggles are actually part of the shared human challenge to live a life that is heart-centered and so
